I am David Casey. I have been photographing weddings in Cork and Kerry for 17 years and I still love every single one of them.

Not just wedding photography. Weddings. The noise of them, the love in them, the chaos and the calm and the moment someone's grandmother starts dancing and nobody expected it.

I photograph a maximum of 15 weddings a year. Not because I have to. Because I choose to. Every couple I work with gets my complete and undivided attention, from our very first conversation to the moment I hand over your gallery.

I use flow posing. I give you something natural to do and photograph you while you are doing it. No stiff poses. No counting to three. Just you, moving naturally, looking exactly like yourselves.

I offer every couple a free practice shoot before the wedding. Not to rehearse photographs, but so that when I walk through your door on the morning of your wedding, a friend arrives. Not a stranger with a camera.

I will fix the flowers on the groomsmen's jackets. Tie a tie or two. Carry the dress. Handle anything quietly so you never know there was anything to handle.

When you look back at your photographs, I do not just want you to see beautiful images. I want you to feel the excitement of that day all over again.

Cork and Kerry - the places I know and love

Cork and Kerry are home. Not just professionally. Personally. My own wedding reception was at Dunmore House Hotel in Clonakilty. I know that venue the way you only know a place that has given you something irreplaceable. The light off the water in the evening. The way the grounds open up toward the sea. When I photograph a wedding there I am not just working at a beautiful venue. I am somewhere that means a great deal to me. 

Kinsale is somewhere I spend a lot of time, walking the Scilly Walk, knowing which rock below The Bullman only works when the tide is out, understanding the light on the harbour at different times of day. 

And Killarney. I love Killarney. The national park, Muckross Lake, the mountains behind the town, the particular quality of Kerry light on a clear morning. I know exactly when to be at Muckross Park Hotel to catch the evening sun. I know the lanes and the lakeshore and the hidden spots that only reveal themselves to someone who has spent real time there. 

West Cork is in a category of its own. Gougane Barra, the Sheep's Head Peninsula, the coastline around Clonakilty, the roads through the Shehy Mountains. These are not locations I visit for weddings. They are places I explore for the love of them.

Handing over a gallery of beautiful photographs never felt like enough to me.

That is why I have always delivered a slideshow alongside the images. A finished piece of work. Something that moves. But even that was not enough. It was not my complete vision of the day.

To truly tell the story of a wedding I need motion. I need to demonstrate the life and vibrancy of the day beyond the photographs of people laughing and enjoying themselves. I need to hear it too.

So many times I have been the only creative at a wedding. I have stood beside a couple and heard the most beautiful, deeply personal vows. I have been in the room for speeches that made everyone fall apart. And nobody was there to record them. They were just lost.

That is why I introduced film. Not because a client asked for it. Because I could not keep standing in those rooms watching those moments disappear.

A photograph of someone laughing during a speech is beautiful. But it cannot tell you what was said. It cannot let you hear the voice of the person who said it.

How many weddings do you photograph each year?

Fifteen. A deliberate choice. It means every couple I work with gets everything I have. No double bookings, no rushing from one wedding to the next. Just complete focus on your day.

Do you travel outside Cork and Kerry?

Yes. I cover all of Munster and I am happy to travel further for the right couple. Accommodation and travel costs apply for weddings outside Munster.

Do you offer wedding films / video?

Yes, and it is something I feel very strongly about. When my children were small I photographed everything. I loved those photographs. But flicking through them I would look at each one for a moment and move on.

The videos were different. I would stop. Every single time. Because a photograph shows you what your child looked like. A video shows you who they were. The way they laughed. The way they moved. The person they were becoming right in front of you.

I started thinking about weddings differently after that. I introduced film to Casey Photography not because a client asked for it, but because I knew from my own life what it would mean to them in twenty years.

Couples never regret having the video. They always regret not having it.

What is the Fusion Movie?

The Fusion Movie is my signature film and the one I am most proud of.

It combines still photographs and video footage into a single cinematic piece, set to one carefully chosen piece of music and running for the length of that song, approximately five minutes.

The technique is unlike anything else. Sometimes a frame begins as a still photograph, perfectly composed and completely still. And then slowly, almost imperceptibly, it begins to move. The image comes to life. The moment continues.

It is not a highlights video. It is not a slideshow. It is something in between, and most couples have never seen anything quite

like it before.

The Fusion Movie is directed by me, with a trusted second pair of hands alongside me on the day capturing additional footage.

What is the Wedding Film?

The Wedding Film is a highlights film of your day. Purely video. No still photographs. Scored to music with voiceover woven through.

This is not a full ceremony recording. It is not three hours of footage sitting unwatched on a hard drive.

It is the highlights. The moments that mattered most, edited with care into a film you will want to watch over and over.

I learned something over years of making wedding films. Couples never watch the full ceremony back. They watch the highlights a hundred times. So that is what we make.

Full day coverage from bridal preparations through to first dance. Directed by me, with a trusted second pair of hands on the day. Delivered within eight weeks.

Do I need a separate videographer?

No. That is the whole point.

Most couples eliminate video early in their planning because they do not want a second person following them around all day. A stranger with a camera. The day feeling like a production.

What is Super 8 film?

Super 8 is a film format from the 1960s. The kind your grandparents used to film christmases, summer holidays and ordinary Sunday afternoons that turned out to be the most important days of their lives.

When you watch your Super 8 wedding film, you will not feel like you are watching a video.

It is like watching a dream of your wedding.

Warm. Imperfect. Luminous.

Like stumbling across an old home movie you forgot existed. Except it is not your grandparents on the screen. It is you. It is your wedding day. And it feels like it happened in another, warmer, more beautiful world.

I shoot Super 8 on real Kodak film during your wedding day. The cartridges are sent to a specialist Irish film lab for development and scanning. The footage is edited into a finished film of up to five minutes, set to music.

The physical developed reel is returned to you. A real, tangible piece of your wedding day that you can hold in your hands.

Do you shoot on film?

Yes, and it is one of the things I love most about what Casey Photography has become.

I spent two years doing night courses at St John's in Cork. Fully film based. I developed my own negatives, made my own prints, and stood in the dark watching images appear slowly on paper submerged in developer.

It is one of the most magical things I have ever witnessed. Something from nothing. Reality made permanent.

That experience never left me. It is why I understand analog photography from the inside, not as a trend to follow but as a craft I have practiced for decades.

For weddings I shoot on 35mm film using a vintage Minolta that has been in my family for years. The choice of film stock is made with your venue and your day in mind.

Kodak Portra 400 for warmth and depth. Ilford HP5 for black and white that feels genuinely timeless.

The film is developed and scanned by a specialist lab and delivered alongside your digital gallery.

Do you offer Polaroid photography?

Yes. Two cameras, two completely different results.

The Polaroid i-2 shoots colour instant film with extraordinary quality. These are not party snapshots. They are considered, deliberately composed instant photographs from your wedding day. The i-2 is the most technically advanced instant camera ever made and the results are genuinely beautiful.

The Polaroid SX-70 is a folding instant camera from the 1970s. Andy Warhol used one. Helmut Newton used one. Loaded with black and white film, it produces images that look like they were found in an old box in a beautiful house. Soft, otherworldly, completely irreplaceable.

What I love most about Polaroids is what they were at the moment they were made. Present. Physical. Real. A piece of your wedding day existing as an object in someone's hands within minutes of the shutter firing.

I still have prints and Polaroids from when I was a teenager. They have scratches on them now, bent corners from being passed to friends who were not quite as careful with them as I was. I love them all the same. More, perhaps, because of those marks.

Your Polaroids are delivered to you on your wedding day itself. You leave with them in your hands.

What is the Same Day Slideshow?

While you and your guests are having dinner, I am editing.

By the time your meal is finished I have selected and edited the best photographs from your day and set them to music. Before your first dance, your guests gather around the dance floor. The lights dim. On an 80 inch screen they watch the story of your wedding day, photographs taken just hours before, already beautiful.

When it ends the screen comes down. The band strikes up. And you walk into your first dance on the highest emotional note of your entire day.

I have been doing this since 2015. I have watched rooms full of wedding guests fall completely silent, then completely apart. It is the moment nobody expects and nobody ever forgets.

I supply everything. The laptop, the projector, the 80 inch screen and the speaker. You supply the guests and I will do the rest.
